Before we know it the cold of winter will be over and the spring buds will start to rise! As the season of new growth spring is a wonderful time to get married especially for those that love the outdoors. This article aims to provide you with some helpful tips to plan the perfect spring wedding.
Your spring wedding venue
Choosing your wedding venue is one of the most important decisions you will have to make. This choice must reflect both your personality and taste as well as provide a setting for an unforgettable wedding day. We may be biased but the county of Kent has some truly beautiful and unique wedding venues, all ideal for a spring wedding, after all, it is the garden of England so where better to celebrate spring-themed nuptials.
Our favourites for a spring wedding in Kent are :
The Pines Calyx – Nestled in the cliffs at St Margaret’s bay this venue has tons of outside space and a victorian garden close by perfect for capturing natural photographs.
Knowle Country House – A Rustic wedding venue with beautiful grounds and a large marquee for your reception, perfect if you are planning on some of your celebrations being held outside.
Winters Barn – This converted barn has all the charm and cosiness of an old building but with all modern-day wedding trimmings.
Your Spring wedding photography
The next most important decision you will make is who to capture your wedding day memories. A good wedding photographer will be with you all day, from preparations until the end of the evening celebrations, capturing every moment as it happens. As a natural wedding photographer, I love being able to find the perfect spot to capture your special day and spring is one of the best times to do this. The gardens are in bloom, the light is soft and the colours are beautiful.
Most photographers will plan out a schedule of your day with you and discuss important pictures you want to have taken, before your wedding talk with your wedding photographer about:
- An area you like at the venue for your couple photography.
- A good place for your family, wider group shots.
- Important pictures to you like your bridesmaids, groomsmen and mother of the bride/groom.
- The feel of your pictures, would you like natural wedding photography with a candid feel or traditional posed photographs.
Dress for a spring wedding
A wedding dress is the first thing that springs to mind when you think of a wedding. Spring weddings allow for soft colour palettes with pastel shades like blue, lilac, yellow and pink. These colours are perfect for showcasing your personality If you’re looking for something more traditional than ivory or white wedding dresses.
Accessories for a spring wedding
When accessorising your wedding look, go for light fabrics like lace and chiffon teamed with flowers instead of jewellery, speak with your hairstylist for the day about adding some gypsophila or roses for a fairytale look. These will complement the natural feel of a spring wedding perfectly.
A spring wedding menu
What wedding would be complete without a delicious wedding menu to celebrate with your partner, family and friends. Spring is the perfect season for all things light and fresh including spring salad recipes using in-season vegetables and fruits.
Spring Wedding cake
Matching the theme of your spring wedding with your cake can create an elegant showstopper wedding cake. Floral wedding cakes with pastel frosting or sugar flowers are perfect for a spring wedding, alternatively, go for a simple buttercream design with seasonal fruits like strawberries and raspberries to give it that extra touch of spring.

Your Theme Palette
When deciding on your wedding theme, think about the colours that will be in bloom during spring. Soft pinks and greens with accents of yellow or lilac can create a dreamy atmosphere for your wedding day. You could also add natural elements to your décor such as branches, leaves and flowers. Speak with your venue about decorations and add your own personal touches to things like table place names.
Plan for weather
While the weather in the UK isn’t exactly predictable, you can ensure that your wedding day is prepared for rain by having a backup plan in place. If it’s sunny, keep some umbrellas and waterproofs handy just in case but if the worst comes to worst and we get an unexpected shower then here are some tips:
- Have an indoor plan B, whether it’s an alternative wedding ceremony or moving the party inside.
- Make sure your photographer know your backup for indoor photography
- Have some pashminas or blankets on hand to keep guests warm if needed.
- -Keep a few games and activities planned for younger guests as indoor pictures may take a little longer depending on the size of your space.
